Climates and remoteness also play a role in grading. However, trekking can be done by all levels of trekkers comfortably if chosen the right level of the trek as some routes can be tough, including a higher level of elevations. It is therefore advised people to get some preparations done, such as including walking, jogging, and stretching in your daily life before you depart. Grade A (Easy):
This level of trekking can be done by any age group with the right health conditions and does not require experience at all. You can expect a proper amount of ascents and descents in this level of trekking. Walking times: 3-5 hours walking per day Altitude: less than 3000m Terrain: sightseeing in cities and some optional day walks on well-traveled trails. Remoteness: Hotel and road-based tour
Grade B (Moderate):
In this level of trekking, the person has to be in proper conditions and as also has undoubtedly been doing some regular exercise. Walking times: 4-5 hours per day for up to 8 days Altitude: up to 4000m Terrain: Rough trials and some daily ascents and descents with some exposure. Remoteness: a reasonable level of local infrastructure, including lodge accommodations.
Grade C (Strenuous):
In this level of trekking, the experience is not desirable, but the fitness is crucial. It is advisable not to undertake a C grade trek for those who have asthma, high blood pressure, heart disease, or complicated medical conditions. Walking times: 5-6 hours per day for up to 14 days Altitude: up to 5500m Terrain: well-traveled trails and daily ascents and descents. Remoteness: a reasonable level of local infrastructure, including lodge and accommodation.
Grade D (Tough):
This level is suitable for extremely fit people with mountaineering skills and knowledge. An extreme level of altitude and weather are to be encountered and may have to use ice axes and crampons on some of the treks. Stamina is the key to success in this level of the trek. Walking times: 6-10 hours per day for up to 25 days, including rest days. Altitude: up to 6000m Terrain: Rough and rocky sections. An excessive amount of ascents and descents. Remoteness: Includes remote areas, with no access to villages and local infrastructure.
